This weekend the Richmond Strikers and FutsalRVA are hosting the inaugural edition of the Jefferson Open FustalRVA, a National Youth Futsal Tournament featuring 5v5 competition for girls and boys teams representing clubs from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and the host state of Virginia.
A total of 44 teams will participate in the first running of the event from December 12-13, some representing clubs from around the region and others entering independently, as players begin their winter training with a weekend of high level play.
In addition to host clubs Fustal RVA and the Strikers, other youth soccer and futsal clubs that will be represented include Charles County Futsal, Chesterfield United FC, Fredericksburg FC, Long Island Futsal, Prince William Courage, Richmond Kickers and Stafford Soccer, among others.
For the Jefferson Open FutsalRVA tournament, up to 12 players are permitted on each team, with the oldest child determining the age level. All games will be played at Randolph Macon College, U-TURN Sports Performance Academy and St. Christopher’s School.
Preliminary Games are on Saturday while Playoff and Consolation Games will take place Sunday. Games will be 40 minutes long for U8-U12 divisions and 48 minutes long for older age groups.
